Ina Reads: Week 1 // Anna and the French Kiss

06:40

So last week, I made a deal to myself that I would read a new book every week. However, I cannot promise you, as my readers, that you will always see a book recommendation every week, let alone that I'll announce that I'll read a book or had finished it. Because things happen, you know.

Anyways, this is my first book review and I'll be glad to hear it from you - your comments. I'm just starting out and it's going to be a long way.

Title: Anna and the French Kiss
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Year/Date of Publication: December 2, 2010
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYNOPSIS:
Anna Oliphant is a 17 year-old girl who has spent her entire life in Atlanta with her mother and brother, Seany. She's at her happiest state: she has a best friend, Bridgette, and guy she works with at the movie theather, Toph (summer love). However, her father, a best-selling author and a bad guy (as Anna defined him), decided to send her to a place she least expected to be in - Paris. It became less thrilling when she found out she'll be in a boarding school. How could her father do this? She was beyond anxious: how can an American, who's left alone, survive in a place and environment she's uncertain of? But then, she meets a new set of friends: Mere, Rashmi, Josh, and St. Clair. And they changed her in a span of 9 months. Especially St. Clair.

THOUGHTS/OPINIONS:
Despite the work load in school, I never seem to have detached myself from this book. Every free time I have, I grab the opportunity to read and get lost in Stephanie Perkin's work of wonder. ((I have a class on Saturdays and I finished it during the class. Don't worry, I was paying attention!))

It struck me how Anna had dealt with finding herself in a place and state where she did admit she was lost. Come on, how would you react if you were sent to a boarding school that's completely out of your range? Foreign language? New culture? How would I even survive?

Moving on, the first few pages caught me off guard. I don't want to spoil it but it includes good music and film directors and films itself. I'm a sucker for good movies and music. The plot was really good and it succeeded in making me feel like I'm in the character's shoes. The story is very moving it made me feel the thirst of reading more, of knowing more about what will happen in the character's lives. The book discusses not only the characters as who they are but also it tackled bits of their lives, especially their families and experiences, which led to where they were.

This book caught me off-guard. It was a roller coaster of emotions and little did I know I would be this attached to the characters and their story.

RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend this book to the people who are fond of reading books which is usually about a teen. If you feel utterly lost about yourself and is in the state of making decisions - family-wise or love-wise, I reckon you pick up this book from the nearest bookstore. You will like how the character's mind work: how they would cope up with each other's situations, and find their true self. In addition, if you are a fan of teenage love, think of this book as a sign. I swear it never failed to make my heart flutter way more that I expect it to be as I read the romance and it never failed to make my heart sink and feel the coldness within me as the story goes deeper and develops into something that I actually loved.

Do I get points for trying? Kidding! But I really hope this review has moved you. As what I've said, this is just my first one and I wouldn't mind learning more on how to do this.

See you soon.
